Welcome to The Checkout by Kuro House, your daily AI and retail update. Today, we’re diving into some solid moves from Moonpig, Poundland, Quiz Clothing, and a spooky launch from Lola’s. Let’s get started.

Moonpig is proving its tech-driven approach is paying off big time. According to The Retail Bulletin, the online greeting card and gifting platform reported consistent 10% year-on-year revenue growth since May. Half of all cards now feature AI-generated stickers, audio or video messages, or personalised handwriting, with customers creating two million personalised images every month. Moonpig expects adjusted EBITDA to grow mid-single digits and earnings per share to rise between 8 and 12 percent in FY26. CEO Nickyl Raithatha highlighted strong customer retention and scalable tech as key to their success.

Poundland is reshaping its store footprint as part of a major restructuring effort. The Retail Bulletin reports that out of 68 planned store closures, 11 have been paused until leases expire, and some stores have even reopened after restocking. The retailer aims to operate between 650 and 700 stores, down from 800 before the acquisition by Gordon Brothers. Poundland has also simplified its digital presence, shifting Poundland.co.uk from transactional to a brand-focused website. Plus, new simple £1, £2, and £3 pricing has been rolled out across many categories, with more to follow.

Quiz Clothing is seeing the benefits of its recent restructuring with impressive summer sales growth. Retail Sector reports a 14% jump in like-for-like store sales during July and August, alongside a 5% rise in online sales. The Scottish fashion retailer invested in design, buying, and supply chain changes, focusing on casualwear and transitional ranges. CEO Sheraz Ramzan said customers responded well to new coordinated separates, tailoring, and expanded sizing options. They’ve also enhanced customer experience with same-day click and collect and in-store fulfillment of online orders.

Now, for a seasonal treat — Lola’s is launching a limited-edition Halloween collection that’s sure to haunt every party. Retail Times shares that from October 15th to November 2nd, you can get ghostly cupcakes, mini tall cakes, and spooky centrepieces. The range includes vegan and gluten-free cupcakes topped with dark chocolate skulls and candy eyes, plus classic cakes decorated with witch hats and spider webs. Pre-orders open September 29th, with nationwide delivery available for those who can’t make it to London.

Finally, to round off, Moonpig’s continued growth and tech innovation really highlight how AI can deepen customer connections in retail. Meanwhile, Poundland and Quiz show how restructuring and refocusing can drive performance even in challenging markets. And Lola’s seasonal launch reminds us that creativity and timing can create buzz and boost sales. Thanks for tuning in to The Checkout by Kuro House — catch you tomorrow for more.
